At Polycultural, we don't only help newcomers adjust to their new surroundings and life in Canada, but we also help Refugees seek settlement within Canada. Our Peel-Halton Integrated Services Reception Centre was opened in Mississauga in May 2016 and accepted its first wave of resettled refugees in September 2016.
Our Reception Centre is designed to provide refugees with immediate and essential services during the time they need it most after their first landing in Canada. The focus is to make sure to give them the knowledge, skills, abilities and the connections they need with their community to make sure they are able to live safely and independently. Our center can also help the refugees find permanent housing within Canada.
It is important to us that this process is as easy for you as possible. We understand that the change can come with quite a shock so Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services will do everything it can to ensure your comfort.
Polycultural provides the port of entry reception at the Toronto Pearson Airport. Reception services are provided to government-assisted refugees, privately sponsored refugees, and blended visa office referred refugees. International arrivals support includes meeting and greeting refugees as soon as they leave the plane, assisting them with immigration and customs procedures, and providing winter clothing for those eligible between the fall and spring months. Domestic arrivals and departures are supported in navigating the airport to ensure they continue their journey. Program staff ensure that refugees reach the service providers or sponsors at the airport or provide in-transit support to refugees on their journey to their final destination.
